This Privacy Policy describes how the Internet Status Indicator – ISP & Connection Monitor Chrome extension (“the Extension”) handles your data.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. The Extension is designed to provide internet connectivity status, public IP information, and ISP details without collecting, storing, or transmitting any personal data to external servers.

By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information the Extension Collects

2.1 No Personal Data Collection

The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII).

It does not have access to:

  • Your name
  • Email
  • Location history
  • Browser history
  • Passwords
  • Cookies
  • Any personal files

The Extension operates entirely within your browser.

2.2 Public IP and ISP Information (Locally Used Only)

To determine your connectivity status, the Extension makes a request to a publicly available API:

https://free.freeipapi.com/api/json

This API returns:

  • Public IP address
  • ISP / ASN organization
  • IP version
  • Approximate location metadata (city/country-level)

This data is used only to:

  • Determine whether your internet connection is active
  • Display the ISP and IP address inside the popup
  • Update the extension’s icon color and tooltip

This data is processed locally and is never transmitted, stored, uploaded, or shared by the Extension.

3. How the Extension Works Internally

  • The Extension checks internet connectivity at user-defined intervals.
  • It only stores basic status information (online/offline, IP, ISP) locally inside Chrome storage, which never leaves your device.
  • This information is not logged, sold, used for analytics, or shared with any third party.

4. Permissions Explanation

The Extension uses the following Chrome permissions:

Used only for storing:

  • Connectivity status (online/offline)
  • Public IP and ISP text (shown in popup)
  • User’s polling interval preference

No external transmission occurs.

alarms

Used for periodic background checks.

notifications

Used only to notify you when the internet connection goes offline.

No notification data is reported to any server.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension uses one third-party API:

FreeIPAPI (https://free.freeipapi.com/)

Used solely to detect connectivity status and public IP information.

Your browser contacts this API directly.
The Extension does not intercept, modify, log, or send this data anywhere else.

6. Children’s Privacy

This Extension does not collect personal data and is safe for all age groups, including children under 13.

7. Data Storage and Retention

  • No personal data is collected or stored.
  • Only temporary connection status data is saved locally inside your browser.
  • Removing the Extension permanently deletes all local data.

8. Security

Although we do not store any user data, we still follow best practices to ensure the Extension operates safely:

  • No external tracking or analytics
  • No remote commands
  • No code that attempts to identify users
  • Secure HTTPS API calls

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing or the official support page.
